Contacts syncing from iPhone 6 to iPhone 8

I have about 1200 contacts on my iphone 6 and trying to sync them to my iphone 8. I have backed up my old device multiple times and turned off then on the contacts on my new phone and nothing. Any tips on syncing my contacts?
