Selecting text in Apple Software

When I select text in Keynote, Numbers or Pages by dragging over the text, when I finish, the highlighted selection disappears. I have to hold down the Shift key to keep the selection. No other app works this way. Only in the Apple apps.

Is there a preference or workaround for this? It's very tedious.

I'm on High Sierra 10.13.6.

People have posted into these communities for years regarding issues when using Wacom input devices with Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Sometimes, updated Wacom drivers help, and other times, not. I recommend using Apple input devices for these Apple applications.

I am on High Sierra 10.13.6, and when I select text in Pages v7.3 with the Apple Magic Mouse II, it stays selected — without any other key assistance. Same drill on Mojave 10.14.3 with the built-in trackpad of the MacBook Air. There is no application setting in Pages, Numbers, or Keynote that will prevent your selection from vanishing. There is no non-contiguous text selection in current versions of these applications.

When you have the text highlighted, does any part of your hand, or clothing come into contact with the trackpad on your MacBook Pro, or are you using an Wacom input device with that Mac?
