The answer is it depends, but it's not likely. Read Set up and use Back to My Mac - Apple Support.

If you did not already enable it in your MacBook Air, the answer is no. If your Mac is running the latest operating system (Mojave), it's also no because Back to My Mac is not available in macOS Mojave: Prepare for changes to Back to My Mac - Apple Support.

But... if someone is at school who can power up and log in and use that Mac, obviously he or she could allow Screen Sharing so that you could access that document, among other options (like emailing it to you, etc).

Also, I'm sure you know that if you were to have saved that document in iCloud, you could work on it from any device, anywhere.

Hi, dkzab !

Repeat after me :

iCloud is my friend.

Google Drive is my friend.

DropBox is my friend.

My hard drive is my enemy.

I have been a tech in some of the more remote places on this planet and even where the internet connection was probably slower than IP over snail, they believed in using the cloud to back up important documents. This could be a very important life lesson for you, should you choose to embrace the consequences of your actions and learn from those consequences. Take your lumps, make amends and resolve to never, ever again save important documents to a single point of failure.

Good luck!

Your comments have nothing to do with the simple fact that Google is not and will never be anyone’s “friend”. They are in business to make money harvesting and selling your info. If you find that acceptable, great, but do not try to convince someone that Google is their “friend”.

Similarly, only trusting nameless online servers with your private data is foolish at best. They can and will be hacked into, malfunction, or suffer a glitch at some point which will result in losing your private data and/or identity theft. But then, being in IT, you know all of this.
