iTunes won't launch when my iPhone is connected

I just updated to iTunes 12.9.3.3 via Microsoft, then discovered my phone was no longer a recognised device. Found the help guide instructions to download the driver bla bla bla - happily fixed after an hour of running assorted windows upgrades. What a @#$% palaver - so much for handing upgrades off to Microsoft for PC! Cheers for that cluster!

However.... since that was done this week, iTunes no longer launches automatically when I connect my device, which it ALWAYS did every time prior to this?

Any clues / fixes known for this? Is was much nicer when it auto launched. Appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Uninstall the version of iTunes obtained through the Microsoft Store. Reinstall iTunes using the traditional iTunes64Setup.exe installer. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows update - Apple Community for more including direct download links at the bottom of the page.

Hi FeoneinAus,

Thanks for bringing this issue to Apple Support Communities today. It sounds like iTunes on your Windows PC isn't launching automatically when you plug in your iPhone.

To turn on this optional feature, Open iTunes and connect your iPhone to the computer. Select the device icon in iTunes' upper left to go to the iPhone Summary page. Then you will see the "Open iTunes when this [device] is connected" option and place a checkmark in the box next to it. This process must be done individually for other iOS devices you use with this computer.

In fact I did just this very thing before your advice and its now all good. However interestingly, despite multiple back ups prior to this, it did not recognise any previous back ups and has deleted them all after claiming this phone has never been backed up to this computer which is totally incorrect.

I have to say the version I downloaded from majorgeeks is great, however the Microsoft version was incomplete and needed additional drivers downloaded to even recognise my phone! Apple needs to make sure this is sorted if they are going to punt us off to another site for non apple downloads!! It was a rubbish experience and way to hard for non technical users!
