My new iwatch will not pair with my new iPhone XR tried to unpair

both phones state pairing and have no devices listed . Best Buy rep reset old iwatch so I could sink with my old iPhone 7(for my kid) still same problem with new iPhone XR and new iwatch 3 stating ready for pairing but does not see or communicate with each other until now communicating but fails when trying to call someone? Will not give option to unpair and start again
