Can I use a MacBook Pro with retina display, late 2013 model as an external monitor to a MacBook pro 2017 without using the sharing screen option?

Sorry, No. screen sharing is the only option.


The MacBook Pro has never had display INPUTS.


Certain iMacs were built with that capability, but not MacBooks.
