Media playback on Safari - MacBook Retina 2017

Whenever i put youtube in fullscreen, it only fills about 3/4 of the screen but says that its in full screen and also takes up a whole screen.

(I use safari on the desktop, not on the fullscreen mode where you can scroll between apps left and right)

This is what happens when i put a video on fullscreen (notice how if i go to put it in fullscreen, it only gives the option to exit. i do have fullscreen API checked so i don't know what it could be.

When on Netflix, if i play a movie on the smaller browser, it's fine; but when i move it to fullscreen mode, the aspect ratio shifts/ stretches for a fraction of a second every couple of seconds. almost as if it goes from 16:9 to 16:9.5 and just stretches the image. (see video for details)

I appreciate any help, thanks in advance
