Using 120hz 4K Monitors with Mac mini 2018

Hi Apple community friends!

I was wondering whether anyone has connected the Acer Nitro XV273K to the Mac mini 2018 (or MacBook Pro), and if so, was able to achieve a 120hz refresh rate (or perhaps overclocking at 144hz)

>> Full name of monitor: Acer Nitro XV273K P 27-Inch Ultra HD 4K HDR with up to 144hz (OC) Monitor (G-Sync Compatible) display. <<

On paper, it's a brilliant monitor offering:

  • 3840 x 2160 resolution
  • Display HDR400 (VESA certified) / HDR10
  • Panel bit depth: 10 bits (8bits +FRC)
  • 350 cd/m2 (HDR peak 400 cd/m2)
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • Response time of 1ms
  • Backlight: W-LED
  • 166 ppi
  • IPS (AHVA)

Q1) The only thing is, I'm not sure whether my Mac mini 2018 will support it due to the lack of a discrete graphics card.

Q2) Another question would be whether to achieve the full potential of the monitor, whether an eGPU would have to be purchased and connected separately.

Q3) Does anyone have any experience with this new Acer monitor (it just came out in Q4 2018)? Would appreciate any input as there's not much online at the moment.

Q4) Other beneficial information, if anyone knew, would be how the color quality of this Acer compares with the LG UltraFine 4K, which I'm currently using on loan from a friend.

Would be grateful for any input, thanks very much.

Warm regards

30-bit color support with Intel UHD Graph… - Apple Community

Note tha 30 bit is 10 bit per channel.

It does not support greater than 60 Hz refresh This says it is limited to 60 Hz by the Intel integrated graphics.

This say one can get 120Hz on a MacBook Pro. Thus, you should be able to get it on a Mini using an eGPU.
