Hermes bands: Why are they so large?

My wife has an Apple 2 watch, small bands, leather and sport are 130 mm which fit. The Hermes bands are 140 mm for double loop and 145 for single loop, or 0.4 and 0.6 inches larger. Apple will not acknowledge the problem. Hermes said they cannot do anything, their customer service said you cannot put extra holes in these bands. IDK why these small bands are so much larger than other Apple bands?
