Update Apple ID Settings

I changed my ID. This iPad hasn't been logged into for a couple months. I finally got logged in with the new ID but I'm still getting the Update Apple ID settings. It's asking about the old ID. If I enter the new ID by hitting the ?, it wants me to reset the password. IT'S A NEW PASSWORD! I do not want to have to change it AGAIN on several apple devices!

I've rebooted to no avail!

That's how I managed to get logged in (article)

And after logging out after the software update and logging in, the message went away!
