Apple Watch Series 4 will not auto lock after new 5.1.3 update

Updated my Apple Watch to the 5.1.3 update and we did this on my Series 4 and my husbands Nike Series 3 and since the update neither of our watches auto lock anymore the screen just stays on, the phone can lock after a few minutes and normally so does the watch but now it doesn’t and this is a security issue. What is the fix? Anyone else experiencing this issue. I would hate to lose my watch since it’s not locking they could do anything. Pass code is set and enabled everything is the same as before the update.

It seems strange that two devices have the same problem, but I have not noticed any issues on my Series 3 and no body else is reporting a similar problem. Are you talking about passcode locking when the watch is removed from your arm? Or screen blanking after some seconds while the watch is still on your arm?

Check settings in the Watch app for Wrist detection (My Watch / Passcode). If that doesn’t give a clue, try a forced reset by pressing and holding both buttons until the Apple logo appears, then release and let the watch reboot. You could also try unpairing and re-pair, setting up as a new watch to avoid any corrupted settings. The final resort if you can’t get it working is Contact Apple Support and seek advice direct from Apple’s support techs. At least the Series 4 is still in warranty and Likely to get free support.

Thanks! I see what happened, before this last update your watch would lock after non use like the phone and looks like the new update did away with that, now it locks when you take it off. Before after few minutes the watch face would lock and you could unlock by unlocking your phone or entering the code on the watch itself now it doesn’t lock anymore which is great makes it easier to do things. But thank you for taking the time to help.
