Bandwidth Usage

Is there a way to monitor bandwith usage on an Airport Extreme?

It depends on the model.. the latest one the answer is NO.. Apple removed SNMP..


If you have the Gen5 or earlier the answer is YES.. you can download a tool called peakhour and it will be able to grab that info from the airport for you.


Overall though Apple Airports are designed to work as the MOST BASIC wireless routers in existence with no extras..

If you seriously want bandwidth it is time to buy a decent router with a lot more information.


eg.. Asus high end models are very good.

A cheaper alternative if you are prepared to do a bit of work is gargoyle firmware on a suitable router. This gives excellent details on the usage. You need to buy exactly the right router though.. my suggestion is the Linksys WRT1200AC which is pretty cheap and works well.


A much more profession unit is the Edgerouter X .. it is very cheap.. has no wireless but you can possible keep the airport for that.. and it will require a bit of learning to setup... not super hard but not easy either.
