Cannot access certain websites

My Macbook has suddenly started failing to load certain websites. Every other computer and mobile device in the house is unaffected, so it doesn’t seem to be an internet problem.

Example... Intry and visit the Apple Discussion site and after a minute, the page loads without any of the Stylesheets.

Or I go to YouTube and find that every video sits there with a spinning loading icon forever (or maybe loading a few seconds before pausing again).

Same issue is affecting both Safari and Google Chrome. Some websites are entirely unaffected.

I’ve tried clearing my DNS cache, ARP cache, and removing Safari’s cache.db file.

Ive tried setting ipv6 to “link local”.

I’ve tried making a new account, and accessing Safari from that - same issues.

What else can I try?

Hi,

I tried a few more things and discovered it was something wrong with my router... not entirely sure what but removing my Macs' static DHCP entries temporarily fixed the problem. So, ultimately could have been stale ARP cache or something similarly tricky to troubleshoot. I reset my router to factory, and everything's back to normal.

Nevertheless, I'm very impressed with how thorough EtreCheck is and will be purchasing the Pro version.

Thanks for your very quick assistance.

  1. Please try these suggestions first. If you can’t open a website in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

2. Startup in Safe Mode, test and restart normally by pressing the “Restart” button at the bottom.

Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

3. Download EtreCheck: https://etrecheck.com/maspro  and post the report here.

Click, “Free Download” button and then  “Click to download” button,

open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing  EtreCheck icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” .

Paste the report when you reply.

If this doesn't help, we can try Google DNS.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I restarted in safe mode but the problems persist. I have downloaded EtreCheck and am running it now (it may take a while).

On interesting thing I found: for the websites that won’t load in Safari... if I try to access them with curl from the command line, I get a page back 1 in 5 times, otherwise I get a timeout. So whatever this issue is, it’s intermittent.

Hmmm... well, I can run EtreCheck, but because I can barely connect to the Internet from it, I haven’t been able to upload the report.

Additionally, I’ve checked my Mac-Mini, which is running an earlier version of MacOS, yet is displaying the exact same problem. My wife has an iMac and MacBook on the same network that have no problems at all. Within the family, we have a myriad of other devices on the network, mobile and Ethernet, also having no problems at all.

At this stage, I’m not sure what to think... an issue with Keychain Access? Something else with my iCloud account?
