I have a 15” Mid 2015 MBP where I have been running the latest High Sierra. I finally decided to update to Mojave and while I was waiting the screen went blank, totally black. I’ve done everything that I know of to try to bring the screen back on except using the power button.
Its been almost an hour now. What should I do and how long should I wait?

You can force quit the machine by holding the power button for an extended amount (~10 secs.)
Reboot and see where it leaves you. If you are still in a failed state, boot into recovery and reinstall the macOS on top of what you have.

Finally had a chance to get back to it and after pressing the power button for about 5 seconds the status bar came back up with 35 minutes to go.
Finished the update and everything looks good. Backing it up now.
