I am trying to reset my granddaughters iPad 1 but it keeps telling me the passcode is incorrect. I gave tried both hers and mine. We are on a shared plan

If it is indeed the PASSCODE that you forgot carefully follow the instructions on this Apple support page:

If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
