How do you get your misplaced phone to play a sound?

I misplaced my phone in my house, and it doesn't beep. My iPad beeps but that's all. It's my iPhone 7.

Find My iPhone: Play a sound

If you lost your device and you think it’s nearby, play a sound on it to help you find it.

Play a sound on your iOS device, Apple Watch, or Mac

  1. Sign in to Find My iPhone on this device with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud).
  2. In the Devices list, tap the device on which you want to play a sound.
  3. If you're using a device that supports 3D Touch, you can press the device on the map to peek at its location, then swipe up and tap Play Sound. Press a little deeper to see more options.
  4. Tap Actions, then tap Play Sound.
  5. If the device is online , the device vibrates and plays a sound immediately (for two minutes). If it’s offline , the sound plays the next time it’s online.
  6. If you’re using a friend’s device, sign out of Find My iPhone when you’re done.

Play a sound on your AirPods

  1. Sign in to Find My iPhone on this device with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud).
  2. In the Devices list, tap your AirPods.
  3. If you’re using a device that supports 3D Touch, you can press the AirPods on the map to peek at their location, then swipe up and tap Play Sound. Press a little deeper to see more options.
  4. Tap Actions, then tap Play Sound.
  5. If your AirPods are online , they play a sound immediately (for two minutes). If they’re offline , you receive a notification on your iOS devices the next time your AirPods are in range of one of your iOS devices and the Find My iPhone app is open.
  6. Important: Make sure to remove the AirPods from your ears before playing a sound. Although the sound starts playing softly, the volume gradually increases. This could cause discomfort for anyone wearing the AirPods.
  7. If your AirPods are separated, tap Mute Left or Mute Right to find them one at a time.
  8. Once you find your AirPods, tap Stop Playing.
  9. If you’re using a friend’s device, sign out of Find My iPhone when you’re done.

After the sound plays, a confirmation email is sent to your Apple ID email address.

You can also find instructions for playing a sound on your device on iCloud.com. Click the Help button , then go to Find My iPhone > Play a sound.
