iPad Pro 10.5 inch lagging, unresponsive touch screen input

Hello, got the iPad Pro 10.5 (cellular) on release week so I’m well out of warranty, still didn’t expect it to already be behaving like this as I have an older iPad 4 and never experienced any problems using it, so I’m a little bit irate as I hoped to get a few more years use before problems arose with this one.

I have found that when I go into airplane mode the lagging, and delayed touchscreen goes away but then the iPad is useless as I only use it connected to the internet. I have factory reset the iPad already but the problem still happens, I have a feeling that it’s being hacked as I have had email alerts with some of the applications that I mainly use saying that there’s been unauthorised login.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? I am hoping I don’t have to go to apple store as they’ll probably charge an arm and a leg.

I think I’ve fixed the issue by plugging in my Apple Pencil to the iPads lightening port... It’s been sitting around supposedly “dead” for a few weeks on my side table, I hope an Apple employee sees this and takes a further looking into it. Still it’s early days it might just be a temporary fix, fingers crossed it isn’t 🤞

You’re not alone. The issue of unresponsive and intermitently freezing iPad Pro models is frequently being reported within this community.

Here is one of the more recent/active discussions about this topic for the iPad Pro.

The problem is known within this support community to affect devices with iOS 11/12 - however, in the absence of a definitive workaround or fix, it is unknown if this is hardware or iOS issue. Apple have neither confirmed nor commented upon this issue.

You should report your problem directly to Apple via their feedback page:

You might also wish to contact Apple Support using the link at the top right of this page.

This is NOT what you are going to want to read/learn, but this is a known issue across all iPad Pro year and models ( even the brand new 2018, 3rd gen iPad Pro models ) and it is starting to affect both the 2018 and 2017 6th and 5th gen 9.7 inch screen iPads, too!!

I am beginning to think that this is a growing issue that is NOT hardware related, but either iOS 11 and/or iOS 12 related bug.

I have a 1st gen, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro still running iOS 10.3.3 and I am NOT experiencing these recent intermittent touch screen issues.

The best you can do is alert Apple to this growing issue.

The only way to get Apple to, DIRECTLY, listen to you is to use their feedback portion of their website.

iPad Feedback

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL feedback generated from all of the various feedback pages and transfers the data to the proper and responsible Apple teams and personnel , but NO Apple employees will ever respond with any type of direct, individual replies from the feedback you post.

The more users that post product feedback about any product issue, the faster Apple is made aware and starts working on a fix/solution for a future software update.

Also, you may want to phone contact Apple, directly in Cupertino, California, and calmly talk to an Apple customer service employee about this issue via the link below.

“For those whom have touch screen unresponsive issue with iOS 12.1.....

Goto Setting -> General -> Accessibility -> Touch Accommodations, Turn on Touch Accommodations. Leave everything else in the options alone.

All my touch issues gone!”

Try his solution and if it works, go to the post link I supplied and let him whether know his solution worked for you, or not.

Good Luck to You!

I’ve tried the accommodation touch, unfortunately it didn’t do anything for the problem so I turned it back off , right now though the lagging and unresponsiveness has out of the blue reduced significantly, I still have to focus on typing so I don’t miss spell things, but it’s not as bad as earlier when I would have to tap multiple times for an input, but I’m sure it will rear it’s ugly head later on, think there is something running in the background at certain times that is really affecting the touch input system.

No.

This is strictly an iOS 12 issue. Period.

And affects All year and model iPad Pros.

As I have stated, I have had my iPad Pro for over three years.

It is still running iOS 10.3.3 and it is not experiencing ANY touch screen unresponsiveness issues. NONE! NADA!

Many different iPad Pro year and model users are, currently, experiencing these intermittent touch unresponsive screen issue and it has been happening with more regularity since the introduction of iOS 12.

Please report this through the feedback page and contact Apple by phone about this issue via both links I supplied in my reply above.

Also, if you use a screen protector, you might want to see if touch response improves, at all, with the screen protector removed.

There is no one in ANY of these Apple Support Communities from any Apple product teams, here.

Cognizant or responsible Apple product teams, designers and engineers do not read, nor participate in these Apple technical support communities.

Cognizant Apple teams do not monitor these Apple support communities, either!

These are, largely, Apple product user to user technical support communities.

I and others, in these Apple product support communities, are simply Apple product users, just like you, that volunteer our own time and knowledge here.

Apple supplies these forums for users to work out their product issues with other users, but these community forums ARE monitored/moderated by Apple Staff, as well as Apple Community Support Specialists, assigned to these community forums, but I do not think any specific user posted info is ever passed on to who/mever the cognizant parties are who would need to know if there are any mounting issues with any Apple product or software.

These ASC ONLY moderators and staffers, due to Apple privacy policies, do not forward any info contained/obtained from ANY postings within these communities to any cognizant Apple staff, teams or individuals.

The only way to get Apple to, DIRECTLY, listen to you is to use their feedback portion of their website and the phone contact link that I have supplied.

Your Apple Pencil may not charge or keep a charge if it has not been charged from O to some significant percentage in the last few weeks, or so.

If it doesn't charge or charges, then starts discharging quickly, then your Apple Pencil is dead or its battery is failing and will, eventually, fail and the Apple Pencil will be dead.

If it is still under the free, one-yewr warranty, Apple Stores should just give you another free replacement Pencil.

If not, you will need to pay for another Apple Pencil.
