HIGH SIERRA BOOTABLE DISK

Hi everyone -

I am trying to use DiskMaker X to create a High Sierra bootable disk with a USB drive. I have followed all the steps but at the very end I get the following message:

The disk could not be created because of an error: An error occured: -10006. Finder got an error: Can’t set alias "Install macOS High Sierra:Install macOS High Sierra.app" to {425, 76}.

I have read in several other places how easy it is to create a bootable disk using DiskMaker X so I am a little puzzled as to what I might be doing incorrectly.

Any guidance would be appreciated

Thanks

If yo have the Stub ~19MB in size, you need the full installer at some 5-6GB in size.

Try running the stub to install, if it loads up the full installer, simply quit the installer.app when it ask for a destination disk.

The install should be safely sitting in your Applications folder— carry forth with your Diskmaker

When creating the Install disk with DiskMaker X, I encounter this error message : “The disk could not be created because of an error: An error occured: -10006.”

This happens sometimes when creating the install disk because a false mount is created as some point. Basically, a false mount is a folder created with the same name as your Install drive, and that makes the Install disk adopt the same name with “1” at the end, i.e. “Install Mac OS Sierra 1”.

If this error happens:

  • in Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder menu ;
  • Type /Volumes/
  • If a folder (not a disk !) is named “Install macOS Sierra”, “Install OS X Yosemite”, or “Install OS X El Capitan”, delete the folder (you may need admin rights, thus type your admin name and password).
  • Reboot your Mac
  • Try again.

Other causes of that error...

  • rrOSACantAssign = -10006, /* Signaled when an object cannot be set in a container.*/
  • rrAEWriteDenied = -10006,
  • elCAUnavail = -10006, /* a CA is not available */
  • error -10006 errAEWriteDenied or telCAUnavail: a CA is not available

I have tried the above multiple times, and spent over 1 hour in a chat with an Apple rep, but the same thing still happens. It only gives me the small version. I did download and update my High Sierra to the latest versions, etc., which obviously required the full version to be available, but still it goes back to the previous error.

I have an older iMAC from 2011, so I really wanted to have a bootable device. I do use Carbon Copy Clone for backup, and it tells me I should be able to boot up from the backup, but just wanted the safety.

Thanks for any help.

Then you already have a bootable High Sierra disk. After making a clone, the first thing I do is to test if it boots. If you haven't done this, do it now. If you still want another bootable backup for safety then make a second clone.
