iOS 12.1.4 battery drain

Am I the only one with this issue? Yesterday, or the day before that, I updated my iPhone XR. One thing I've come to notice is that, since I updated it, the battery drains pretty fast. I'd say I'm an average user and I could go the entire day and it wouldn't reach 20%. Now, around 4PM, after being fully charged around 5AM, it's down to 50%. I just find it weird, knowing that I'm an average user, my average screentime is around 2 hours a day, so I don't know what's up.

Top 1 is background activity of standard mail app with 51% activity.

The other apps are in normal range.

When changing period for these numbers from 14 hours to 10 days, I can see that the average activity for the mail app is only around 20%, which looks normal to me. It really seems to be linked to this iOS update as this issue started after it has been installed.

The mail app also reacts differently now when navigating within an email thread - it jumps around and seems trying to readjust the view in some circumstances.

I have an iphone 6s , One week back i bought an Apple watch and tried to pair the watch with the Iphone but was unable to pair as the ios version was lower. So unwantedly i had to upgrade my iphone to ios 12.1.4 . Today i noticed something strange in my phones battery performance . I charged my phone completely in the morning and went for jogging . I came back after an hour and my phone battery was left with 2 percent . I thought may be didnt charge my phone in the morning and kept the phone on charge again . After charging it to 80 percent again i saw the same behaviour of battery draining in half an hour . Is this something related to the ios version , because i was very happily using my iphone on version ios 10 .

Please suggest

im seeing this exact scenario. i upgraded from 12.1.2 to 12.1.4 and over the past 3 days (since i updated), my battery is almost at 0% by 1pm (before i was good till sleep/bed ~ 10pm). looking at the battery settings, its NOT showing the issue, as the % of usage does not add up to 100% (ie all apps will add up to ~ 60%), even when i tap on the 3-4h segment of the graph at the top, the % do not add up.

so ive now tried fully disabling siri, but the issue persists. (i dont use hey siri, only push home button. i actually dont use siri at all, i just need it enabled for dictation to work).

Clearly something is wrong with 12.1.4

I also have (had) this issue, unusual battery drain after installing 12.1.4. Luckily I was able to revert back to 12.1.3, and my battery usage is now back to what it was before installing 12.1.4. (I have a 6+, and one of the things I *liked* about iOS 12 was greatly improved speed and battery consumption! <sigh>) Hoping for a fix in the next update...

While I can’t vouch for ALL users of iOS 12.1.4, add me (with an iPad Pro) stating the same EXACT low-battery/quick discharge life after updating to this version!

I do expect Apple to offer up a ‘fix’ (in the NEXT iOS release, sigh)

but DO NOT let Apple convince you that YOUR usage is the the ‘problem’

as it’s obviously a result of THIS version and nothing else!

I think that it’s fairly pathetic how ‘little’ they test/try out the differences in battery usage

and rather ONLY focus on security issues to quickly fix/address.

If they spent as much ‘serious’ effort in addressing battery consumption as they do security patches,

then we could meet in a happy ‘middle-ground’ where ‘some’ battery usage was traded-off for security

rather than this ‘extreem battery-sucking/draining’ release.

Very true Apple will not convince me it’s usage I work same schedule everyday so my usage is similar day in day out then after update it drops from 100% to 42% less than 3 hours. Also have turned off locations still dropping like a rock . Some of us may not be as smart as Apple Techs but we aren’t stupid either . But we know they will come up with some lame excuse. 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎

This is nonsense. We don't need to know how to check what is draining our batteries. Before 12.1.4 the battery was fine. Since 12.1.4 the battery is draining at least three times faster than it did before. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the update is at the root of this issue. Asking us to check our settings assumes we don't know our own phones and how they've behaved up until now. Apple needs to fix this.

I am also getting significant battery drain on my new iPhone X and my older iPad Pro since the latest iOS update. My iPad which is left idle during daytime and at 100% power each morning is dead by 6pm

my almost brand new iphoneX is down to 30% by mid afternoon with little use

neither of these devices had these issues prior to the iOS update and neither have had new apps installed. judging by the posts here there’s clearly a battery performance issue that’s been introduced by the latest update

Every update since I can remember on Apple Android and Playbook forums, users have blamed the latest update for battery drain. It’s some sort of tradition.

If nobody wants to post a screen shot of battery usage from settings there is little anyone can advise except wait 2 days for the search indexing to finish and if you still believe your device has a problem either restore from backup or restore as new and the fresh copy of iOS will be fine.

That’s rather an unhelpful and patronising response, I like to believe that I am reasonably intelligent and can surmise that if I wasn’t having a SIGNIFICANT (that’s a key word) battery drain problem before the update and haven’t added any new apps or changed the way I use the device but are now seeing a battery drain from 100% to zero in less than 8 hours then the update might be the problem? Day 1 showed the home and lock screen had used 65% of the battery, day 2 showed Siri has using 45% of the battery, I hardly ever use Siri

Apple support confirmed that I am experiencing significant battery drain after they checked my stats and battery health. Recommendations were made by them and I followed the recommended settings and reported back to Apple. In a nutshell, they stated that the battery is definitely discharging rapidly over the past several days. I thanked them for they diagnostic attempt and added that I am hopeful a new update corrects this problem.

But they had the last word: “Maybe we were not clear. The update is not the cause of the issue with your battery.” 🤥
