"Finder.app" wants to control "Safari.app"

Hi,

This morning the following message pops up: “Finder.app“ wants access to control “Safari.app“. Allowing control will provide access to documents and data in “Safari.app“, and to perform actions within that app.

When I click the 'Don't Allow' button (as opposed to 'OK') the dialog disappears for a second then reappears. It won't go away, which makes me suspicious.

Any info out there that would indicate that it is legitimate and not dodgy?

Thanks.

Problem Solved - had no luck with system upgrade to 10.14.3, reviewing Permissions and other searches in Libraries for the source - so I got on a call with Apple support, requested help for "trouble with Safari." They suspected malware and guided me to follow path to download a trial of malwarebyte.com, walked me through all steps including multiple re-starts to confirm that this software successfully found the problem and removed it. Thank you Apple Support!

Hi BDAqua, thanks for your reply.

I saw a post about Mac Defender, with pretty much the same message except for not mentioning "Finder.app". I ran MalwareBytes as suggested for that issue. My issue has nw gone away so that seems to be related to malware. I suspect that it was downloaded when my better half was last on the machine 24 hours ago.

Anyway, the message is not legit, so my suggestion for others is to run MalwareBytes (or similar) and see if a scan followed by deletion that fixes their issue.

Thanks again.
