Final cut pro freezes system when rendering

I updated to MacOS 10.14.3 yesterday (and there was an update for Pro Video formats as well). This morning I went on editing a project (nothing fancy, it was really fast earlier) which worked pretty well, but when I wanted to export a master file, it made the whole system freeze. I tried a different project as well, which seemed fine at first, but when it started to render some background files, it froze the system as well. I've never had any problems in these projects. When the render or export does work, it's extremely slow (it needs 30 minutes for 3 minutes of video).

This is what I tried already:

Reinstalled Final Cut Pro
Did an NVRAM reset
Removed the FCP settings when starting FCP
Run a first-aid in disk utility in Recovery Mode

My system should handle it easily:

Mac Mini (2018)

6 core 3,2 ghz Intel i7

32gb RAM

Working on these project from the internal 1tb flash drive with plenty of space left.

Anyone who has an idea what to do? I'm tired of googling and finding nothing that helps.

I was having the same exact issue, FCPX would freeze while rendering as would my entire computer. I have temporarily removed ANY plugins that were associated to FCPX and it fixed the problem. The one plugin in particular that was causing my freezing was MInstaller and mLut by MotionVFX (which has worked great on passed versions of FCPX).

Also note that before removing my plugins I deleted and re-downloaded FCPX and updated all of my software to no avail. The plugins were definitely the issue. I hope this bug is fixed in the next version and I hope this helps someone who was as frustrated figuring it out as I was.

I have the same issue. Can confirm. I did an erase/clean install of MacOS. Just going through projects freeze up my system.

I'm running Intel Iris Graphics 540. I have an ongoing case ID with support, but they're not responding to my emails.

Will report it.

Same here! No Final Cut plugins. But it seems like a Mojave bug? For the Intel Graphics? I'm on a Mac mini 2018, Core i7 3,2, 16 Gb ram, SSD, and running the projects from an external usb 3.0 2TB drive. I found this on the console:

To those of you who fixed this by removing plugins, is there a simple window where I can see all third party plugins and disable them? If not what is the correct process?

(Tearing my hair out that I even have to do this.)

I am currently doing that as we speak, before reading this I was editing and exporting a 5 min 1080P video and it literally was stuck at 3% while exporting. I am running the newest version of FCPX too

Same FCPX freeze issue! I'm using the BRAND NEW 2019 iMac w/ i9 and Vega 48 GPU. running 10.14.4.

Sometimes it won't freeze, but it just did two times in a row again. The fan will kick on really high (it never did this before) then the whole system freezes but the mouse still moves!

I am getting the same issue.

I am on the current OS 10.14.4 and my system is pretty empty so I can process content. Working on a video that is only 4min in length and as soon as it hits the first "Ken Burns" crop I have the video freezes. I can still hear the video play, but my whole video and keyboard get locked up.

Highly unimpressed as this should not even be an issue. My MacBook is built for editing and how can I work on client projects if I have to keep power cycling my machine so I can use it.

Final Cut Pro is not designed for entry level use so I am shocked this has been an on going issue for months for many users.

The integrated graphics in the MacBook is a real problem for professional applications. Honestly, I think you really need to have a system with dedicated graphics when using applications like FCP and Motion and other pro apps.

I’ve got the same problem, in working on a project now and it continues to freeze with simple tasks. When I add an audio layer or video it will freeze and then I’ve got to close and reopen FCPX. It’s ridiculous.

Running macOS Mojave 10.14.4. I’m using the MBP 13” 2016 2.9 GHZ i5, only 8 GB Memory. However, I’ve always been able to edit in the past with no issues. It’s just just the last few months have been garbage, I know I need a faster computer anyway but there’s clearly an issue here.

I think pace comes with the iLok I use for software licenses, so in that case it's probably needed for that.

Yes. They have great support - already mailing with one of them trying to figure out whats wrong.

Support said the didn't hear about any problem similar to mine until today.
