Linking documents...

I'm using the most current version of both Numbers and Pages on my iMac, using Mojave 10.14.3.

I'm creating spreadsheets in Numbers, that I use as an income sheet to keep monthly track of date, name, amount, etc. I would like to be able to link each customer's name to a receipt that I have created for them in Pages. I can't seem to find a way to do that. Linking from Numbers seems to be limited to webpages or phone numbers, not Pages docs.

As a workaround, If I insert a spreadsheet into a Pages document and try to link from there, I still can't seem to figure out how (or if) I can do that. I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Donagh G

None of the iWork apps can refer to data in other documents. It's best to keep information in the same document separated by sheets and tables

One possibility is to store all those receipt files online, like in Dropbox, so you can access them with a URL. Then you can put each URL into a cell in Numbers as a hyperlink to the document. You will have to be online to view the documents, though.

Instead of Dropbox (or similar), you can use iCloud. You share the document using the collaboration settings, allowing anyone with the link to view the file. You can set a password also, if that is important to you There is a button to copy the link to be pasted into Numbers. I did this using the icloud.com website. I do not use iCloud Drive on my computer for documents so I do not know if it can all be done locally, without having to go to icloud.com.

Thanks for sharing your iCloud share experience, Badunit.. Didn't know you could do that from iCloud.com. (I haven't found a way with iCloud Drive on Mac). It's clunkier than Dropbox but it is possible to get a link that, when clicked in Numbers, will open an image in Preview (where on my setup clicking a link to an image stored in Dropbox opens the image in Safari.
