I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2009) that runs using OS X 10.11.6. I have software that needs at least OS X 10.2. From everything I am seeing I cannot upgrade my Mac to OS X 10.2, nor to anything else higher than OS X 10.11.6. Is this correct?

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2009) that runs on OS X 10.11.6. I have software that requires at least OS X 10.12. Do I have any options besides going out and purchasing a newer Mac?
