Finder is not working!

I have MacOS Mojave. My finder is not working. Keeps saying that it is not responding. And I have to keep relaunching. But then it freezes again. (rainbow icon circles) Also, I cannot save, open, or delete files from my desktop,

I have tried starting in safe mode and restarting in regular mode.

After looking at some communities, I have tried deleting the file com.apple.finder.plist

So far, nothing has resolved the issue.

I am not an IT person, so I have no idea what to do at this point.

Help?

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD. If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

Recovery http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

You can reinstall the macOS on top of your existing macOS from this same Recovery.

User files are left in place, only the OS is refreeshed.

always have a current backup plan in place.
