Is my Old Apple TV still any good?

I bought an Apple TV 5+yrs ago. Is it any good? Could I still use it?

If it were a 1st gen then it no longer has access to the iTunes Store and syncing was removed from current versions of iTunes. If it were still in working order you would be able to play media already stored on it, and if you had a backup of an older iTunes you could revert to continue syncing. It is considered obsolete though so once it stops working there isn’t much you can do.

If it were a 2nd Gen then it may still work but it is no longer receiving updates, and should issues arise that device is considered obsolete so it is no longer supported for service by Apple. Providers have also started to drop support.

If it were a 3rd Gen then it will likely be fine, but it is no longer receiving updates as the model is discontinued.

The 3rd Gen would still work exactly the same as when you purchased it and no one would be forcing you to purchase a new one. Older products will become discontinued, and that one is actually 7 years old at this point. Apple supports their products longer than most. The 6S is still receiving updates, as is the 5S. However, no product is going to guarantee you indefinite support.

The 4th Gen runs a completely different OS that the older hardware is simply not capable of running.
