java terminal box in dock

Anyone know why I keep seeing this java terminal box in my dock?

There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, it just occasionally turns up in my dock. I just bought this MBP 6 weeks ago. I've had 6 previous MBPs and never had this happen before.

If you used setup assistant or migration assistant, more than likely it followed you.

That postition on the Dock makes it look like it recently used

Java has not been include with Mac since OS X 10.7

Get Java for your Mac - Apple Support

You can control click the icon to see if it is there on log-in and of course you can drag the icon off the Dock

From the terminal window you can copy and paste:

java -versiion

to see JAVA dependency you can , copy and paste:

find /Applications -type f -name *.jar

If you don't use Java you can uninstall it:

>System Preferences>JAVA you may be able to uninstall from here as well.

Thanks. I followed the steps in the link article you attached.

I found:

No Java items in the first step: /Library/Internet Plug-ins/

No java items in the second step: Library/PreferencePanes/

One Java folder in the third step: /Library/Application Support/Java

I moved it to trash and emptied the trash.

Now I wait and see, I guess, if this will still keep happening, or if I've removed something I actually needed.

Thank you again.

R.
