Taking pictures while recording video using the Apple Watch App.

Okay so I have the Apple Watch 4 and I have the iPhone XS Max. I was using the camera app on the watch for the first time yesterday and discovered that you could use it to stop and start video recoding and you could zoom in and out using the crown really nice features. Of course the phone is on a tripod, I was recording a school play. So I also discovered that their was a camera button on the watch app while recording video, so I thought that will be cool to take some still pictures. Assumed it worked the same way on the watch camera app as it does on the phone camera app, just snap a photo and it would show up in your photos on the phone, but when I went back to find the photos that I thought I took while using the watch app to record video. I couldn't find them. I just set up a small test tonight and shoot a short video using the watch camera app and took some photos and could not find them. So the question is when you take photos with the camera app on the phone while recording video where are the photos stored ???
