headphone lightning adapter not working in iOS 12.1.3/12.1.4

Audio is not being played through the lightning adapter in iOS 12.1.3/12.1.4

Observed:

iPhone 8, iOS 12.1.3 or 12.1.4, bluetooth turned off
Start playing a track in the Music app
Audio is playing through speakers as expected
Insert Lightning adapter
Audio continues to play through speakers
Go to music control, tap on AirPlay icon (upper right), observe that iPhone is checked. Not sure whether I should be seeing Headphones there, but in any case, audio still plays through speakers with Lighning adapter inserted

Expected:

When playing a track in the Music app and inserting Lightning adapter, music should play through headphones, not iPhone speakers

Hello,

Check the charging port for lint or other debris.

Do the EarPods that came with the phone work without the adapter?

Use Apple headphones with your iPhone, iPad, and iPod

If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Having the same issue. The adapter + headphones will work if I restard my iphone with everything closed and use, for example, the voice memos app.

Then, if I open the music app or spotify, my iphone doesn’t recognize them anymore.

My lightning port is clean and working perfectly with any charging cable.

My lightning cable + headphone work perfectly with my ipad with an old ios.
