Video icon
Since updating iOS I’ve lost the video icon. I know it’s now all in the TV app but I have an autistic son who uses this iPad purely for watching his videos and relies on seeing the familiar video icon. Can I get it back?

I’m sorry, no. There’s no way to choose an icon.
He’ll need to adjust unless you can look in the app store and find a video app with a similar icon. (Although most of the ones I saw when I searched are for editing video not just playing it)
I don't have a solution, but did try a few things to get your son at least part way there.
It appears that the original Video app isn't in the app store (it may have been built-in to previous versions of iOS.)
I've also done some brief research into creating a Shortcut to access movies, but I don't think Apple has exposed the TV app to Shortcuts. If they had (or if there is a way) then you are supposed to be able to place an icon for the Shortcut on the Home screen and change its icon (to a similar/the same one as the original Video app.) All of this was according to some Apple Shortcuts support documents.
Just wanted to let you know that I tried and I hope someone can offer a solution for you and your son.
I’m afraid the point is he can’t adjust. His autism along with very many who are autisti, relies on familiarity. Coupled with severe learning difficulties there is very little likelihood of him being able to learn that his videos are in a different folder!
I know. I’m sorry and wish I had a better answer. Even on a full fledged PC I don’t think there’s really a way to personalize icons.
Maybe that would be something to suggest to a developer, to make retro ‘themes’ to bring back old icons....and to get apple to allow people that level of personalization.
