In Mac Preview app, a circle with a horizontal bar through it appeared at top right on one of my images: what does it mean and how do I get rid of it?

Can you post a screen capture of the icon you’re seeing in Preview (cropping out or masking anything sensitive in the image), and what sort of image file format is in use, and whether other tools can access the image?
Try a Quicklook—highlite your img and use the spacebar
Try open the image in Preview in its own window. Preview>Preferences
From your screenshot it appears as part of the .jpg Maybe you can go back to the source.
Yes, it is part of the jpg, although I can't figure out how that icon got there, as these were pictures taken with a smartphone and the icon clearly wasn't on the original page. Is there any process within Preview that puts this kind of permanent stamp on a picture, something I might have done inadvertently? Thank you
Might that be a trial version of some app you’re using? A camera app, or an image-processing app? Lots of ways to add watermarks, too. Work through the sequence from capture to,render. That’s something for which you’re best positioned...
Hello, please see screenshot attached. Icon is visible on the image in the window and also in the thumbnails. I couldn't find any help on this icon in Preview Help, nor online. Thanks for your help!
