How to search email by date parameters, then delete that email

I'm trying to help a friend who uses only an iPhone and an iPad. She has many years of mail on her phone, and uses gmail as her email.

She wants to search for all email older than one year, then delete it. I am in IT, and cannot find any information describing how to do this. It's easy to do on a mac or android phone, but I cannot figure it out. Any assistance is welcome!

I honestly have no idea what model iPad she has (I assume it's a newer one) and she probably has an iPhone 6 or 5.

iPhone 5

Hello Anahid A,

Thanks for the post in Apple Support Communities. I see you have a question about searching in the Mail app for iOS, and I'm glad to help.

This article will show you how to search by date, using the steps from the "Search for an email" section: Find and organize emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The best way to accomplish what you're looking for using the available search function is likely to search by month. If you open the Mail app and type a month, or search terms like "Last Year" or "2018," they should appear under a "Dates" category in your search results, and you can tap those to see if they'll work for you.

I hope this helps get you started.

Take care.
