AirPods keeps disconnecting after 10-15 minutes

AirPods were working fine till about 2-3 weeks ago. Now, when listening to podcasts, music, or making calls on iPhone X, the AirPods will suddenly auto stop working in the sense that the right one will disconnect at which point the playback either stops completely or continues but only on the left one. If the former, then too if I restart playback, audio will only be on left AirPod. the right one just stops working and disappears as well from the battery widget in Notification Center. However, if I put it back in case, it will almost always show 100% or somewhere thereabouts and the charging icon too, and then if I reuse, again both AirPods will work for 10/15/20/30 minutes and same thing repeats.

Also occurring on MacBook Pro. in addition, see screenshot where though bluetooth is 'off', the AirPods are being recognized (?)

note: I was on the latest beta for both MacBook Pro and iPhone X few weeks back, and then moved back to regular modes for both. Also until few weeks ago, I never used/connected AirPods to the Mac. Seems the problem has started due to either or both of above situations?
