Small white circle with a black arrow status icon on top of Apple Watch 4 gps

This small white circle with a black turn arrow symbol appeared and it is not described in any of the Apple support documents. I closed all of my active apps but it is still there. I turned off my watch and turned it back on, and now it is gone. I am not sure what it was telling me? I had previously had a golf app open, but it was closed with the swipe and x.
