Can I update iTunes without switching the OS?

It seems like Apple support has become a special sort of... special. The last person to ask the above question got instructions on how to update their OS, so I'll ask again. "Can a user update just iTunes without updating their operating system?"

No. You have to update the OS to get the latest iTunes. Apple Support is not "special" they are just telling you how to do what you want to do.

old macOS systems only support up to a certain version of iTunes, that's just how it works. You cannot update to an iTunes version that is not support by the macOS that you have installed. It's as simple as that.

If you are using macOS 10.14 Mojave, then iTunes comes as a pre-bundled with macOS. To get the latest version of iTunes, update the software on your Mac: First Go to the Apple () menu > System Preferences, then finally click on the Software Update.

The Software Update panel of System Preferences on a Mac. The image shows "Checking for updates."

If you can’t update to macOS 10.14 Mojave, you might still be able to get some updates for iTunes (up to iTunes 12.8). Open the App Store on your Mac, then click Updates at the top of the App Store window. If any iTunes updates are available, click Install.

Hope it will helps you to update your iTunes with latest version.

It's really shady that the basic functionality of transferring a video back to one's phone would be impacted by an "upgrade". That's not a justifiable correction on behalf of Apple developers, and only serves as an annoyance to force folks to swallow the upgrade. The largest technological market cap on the planet, yet they cannot provide a product which would sustain basic video transfers. What an embarrassment.... that I continue to use this overpriced hardware.
