How to text to a 4 digit number

iMessage converts a 4 digit number to phone number format.

trying to send text to 4448

imessage will change to 444-8 which then will be rejected.

Log into www.icloud.com with your credentials

Click on Cogged Wheel (Settings Icon)

Click Preferences

Uncheck - Automatically Format Phone Numbers

It doesn't want to send until you press the "+" after you type in the four digit number. Worked on this for a long time through icloud, settings, tech support, etc. The answer is tap the + to the right of the "To:_______" recipient. Then your message will send.
