Trying to erase and format fusion drive currently running APFS (Mojave) in order to downgrade to High Sierra. When booting into disk utilities, fusion drive has grayed out erase button but the container disk2 and volume Macintosh HD are not grayed out. Should I be able to erase and format the Fusion drive to MacOS extended journaled?

If you are booted in Recovery Mode (command + R on start) Also make sure Disk Utility's view is set to "Show All Devices" and you select the top level of the drive.
Sorry. I just checked on one of my iMacs with a Fusion drive and it seems you have to select the Container in order to erase a APFS drive.
Yes, I am booted into Recovery Mode and the DU is set to view all devices. The top level drive is the Fusion Drive but the erase button is grayed out.
Thank you for your help. Not very experienced with Apple products and didn't want to do anything that I might have trouble recovering from.
