Logic crashes on new iMac Core i7

Moving from iMac Late 2015 with 32 gb of RAM to iMac 5K model 18,3 with Core i7 processor and 16 gb of RAM. Old projects are crashing Logic. These are hard crashes that require a complete power button shut off and restart.

Could the fact that these old projects were done with 32gb of RAM won't open on an iMac with only 16gb of RAM?

Thanks, in advance, for any responses.

OS=Mojave 10.14.3

Logic Pro X=10.4.4

New computer restored from Time Machine backup. Logic Pro is working flawlessly with "new" projects. No issues with plugins. I have a massive number of third party plugins mostly run with Kontakt 5 and Kontakt 6. Kontakt presents no issues in new projects. All third party plugins are functioning properly.

I have deleted and reinstalled Logic from the app store. Haven't done anything with configuration files or resetting preferences. Have exhausted all alternatives in setting buffers within Logic - but Logic normally hard-freezes before I can execute the changes.

Open old project. Wait a bit for plugins and instruments to load. All 8 cpu cores suddenly shoot to maxxed out (no warning) and the entire computer is locked up. Mouse pointer will move, but very slowly and long after I've actually moved it. The only remedy is to hold the power button until the computer turns off. Restart and everything is fine until I load one of these older, HUGE projects in Logic.

I'm baffled. I've read every scrap of advice I can find to remedy this problem.

I have more RAM on the way to bump the computer up to at least 32gb. Hoping that solves the issue. Next step will be to import the tracks from the old project into a new one.

Any input appreciated.

Thanks!

Try one of these Logic startup modifier keys, either the Audio one AU should get the file open.

How old are these projects, saved from which version of Logic?

Set Logic's Preferences/Audio Multithreading to Playback Tracks, and the I/O Buffer to 1024.

If you can get a project open, save it under a different name, I'd even be so careful as to work with a duplicate of the project.

Be sure to disable Kontakt's Memory Server, MacOS handles memory management. If it does open and you can save the project under a different name, then try and open it normally.

That said... it could very well be a RAM issue.

I didn't use Migration Assistant, but I did restore from a Time Machine backup. There were other signs in the "system" once restored that suggest to me the backup/restore process isn't foolproof. That's why I gave up and set up a new user. My iTunes library still hasn't synced properly, even though I subscribe to iTunes "Match."

Thanks, Pancenter!

Pancenter: Thank you very much for your answer.

Projects were worked on and saved under the most recent version of Logic, 10.4.4

Buffer already set to 1024. Kontakt memory server is off. Have started Logic and opened project with CoreAudio off. Saved under a different name... All great suggestions. No help until I increased the RAM to 32gb. The one critical project was able to play and bounce... So I am good to go, for now. However, I'd sure like to know why it was essential to have 32gb of RAM in order to open and play the project.

Most recent lockup was caused when I opened the file browser in Logic and tried to view "All files." Logic locked up again. At least this time I was able to force it to shut down. Computer restarted, opened Logic, loaded problem project and it all worked except the media file window. I'll stay away from that for now.

Thanks again!
