Wall outlets with USB ports are all about unsightliness and saving space -- not having to have "wall warts" hanging off them. I have a few AC/USB wall outlets in strategic locations around the house and they're a nice addition (and no requirement for a licensed electrician to install them in the US).

Combining the convenience of smart-controlled AC outlets along with built-in USB ports would be a next-level improvement for some situations. I don't need that for myself, but I can see that there might be value in combining these two conveniences into one package.

Good find, but the OP specifically mentioned "wall outlet" (this is a power strip). Perhaps this type of design may eventually come to a compact wall outlet form factor.

Hi rockmyplimsol and MorganMolly, Further research would support your finding - there are a number where you plug a smart adaptor into an existing outlet. Looking at it in hindsight - almost every smart device is a stand-alone user "plug and play" device.

A pure wall outlet as you describe, would (in Au) require a licensed electrician to install, which comes with a whole bunch of other regulatory requirements. As you say with time (and market penetration?) we may see more devices that can be physically integrated.

I feel that whole "Smart Device" industry is creating smart devices, simply because they can do it, throwing them into the market to observe what users like you and I can do, or wish to use them for? Like you - what are you doing that needs a controlled Power Outlet, and an uncontrolled USB?

Unfortunately, I have never come across any smart wall outlet which has USB ports. Good idea, but just doesn't seem to exist yet.
