HP Laser Jet 3050 - Printer Offline

I had this problem earlier this year, and I just reinstalled the driver and all was fine, but not now.

Literally, my printing just stopped and I was getting the error message "Printer OffLine" so I went to HP downloaded the correct driver, but when I run it thru the HP Utility, there is no option to select the printer by name - the selection box is simply blank. (previously it showed the printer name).

The HP Driver has not changed in a few years either, so I know it is not them.

Any advise???

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Is the printer connecting via USB cable or some other type of connection? Apologies for the question but I don't know the model and want to limit my suggestions to you...

it is USB. the 3050 is a B&W laser, fax, scanner. All American generic HP home/office laser.

It is probably about 4 years old.

I deleted all of my HP Software and re-installed and it works.

But this is driving me crazy why this happens??? I will pay special attention the next time I do ANY software upgrades and make sure that I print right away.
