Upgrading ssd not recognise

Hi guys,

I'm trying to replace my current ssd with transcend jetdrive 850 ssd but once I have done the replacement I got this flashing question mark folder. After that I reboot it in recovery mode and found out that the new ssd is not listed as if it's not detected in disk utility. Then I tried going to restore the backup using time machine and it's not there in the destination disks either. I tried to send a mail to the transcend producer but I also hope someone can help me with this. Really appreciated and thank you.

You didn't tell us why you are replacing the original SSD. If you said you were upgrading I'd suspect reason 1 or 2 below. If you said your original SSD stopped functioning I might suspect that the malfunctioning SSD involved reason 3.

There are three possibilities:

  1. you didn't seat the new SSD properly -
  2. the SSD is defective
  3. the logic board is damaged

The first thing to try is remove the SSD and then reseat it. There should be a satisfying 'snick' when the drive is seated properly. If you still have no luck, assuming you are just upgrading to a larger drive, reinstall the original SSD and make sure it works. If so, you can contact the seller for a replacement.
