Then your friend is going to have to contact where he purchased the phone and ask for another copy of the receipt. If purchased from Apple, they have the option for a paper receipt, or to have one emailed to you. Ask your friend what they did.

What would you do with the receipt if you had it? It serves no purpose. You can't get it serviced in India, even with the receipt, and the receipt is not necessary for service in the US.

Would it not be easier asking if your friend has the receipt, if they paid for the device I would think they should have all the relevant documentation.
