Background showing through some apps on iMac display

I can't find another topic like this but I've experienced this intermittently for a while on my late-2012 iMac monitor, where some apps become semi-transparent, with windows and images from the desktop showing through.

This is currently a particular issue with Adobe Premiere Pro CC, but I have experienced it with other apps in the past -- generally video based apps like VLC and others. And currently I am seeing it in Preview on this Mac.

Frustratingly taking a screenshot doesn't really show the issue -- but you can see it in the phone pic that I am sharing below: the background Chrome tabs and icons show through near the top of a Premiere window. It also creates some annoying vertical striping.

It has happened in the past, pre-Mojave, and disappeared for unknown reasons. In this current case I've been unable to fix it with multiple resets of the machine.

Thanks for any thoughts, help, suggestions.

It's not just Chrome, that was just an example. It was showing whatever I have behind it. However I had a system crash while I was out, and after rebooting the machine, on dialabrain's suugestion I tried the "reduce transparency" in Accessibility options. It seems the problem is gone for now. Not sure if that's what did it, as I had never changed any setting in Accessibility before, and I just tried unchecking it without recreating the problem, but anyway, happy it's fixed for now!

Not sure I understand. That would be a terrible feature for video/photo professionals like myself using software like the Adobe CC suite to do visual work on their Macs. It seems more a glitch than any sort of feature as it's not consistent, and like in this case, it did go away after a system crash. Maybe a memory or graphics memory issue. Odd that I don't see other reports of it online, but I can't be alone here!
