After the most recent iOS update 12.1.4 (16D57) my ipens x1 pencil won’t work anymore................do you have any recommendations?

I agree with your assessment, however I was litterally using the ipens x1 without flaw. I saw the update, completed the update and the ipens x 1 no longer works!
This is just a battery powered, so-called, fine point “active” capacitive stylus that is built and designed to mimic normal finger touches to the any iOS device screen.
These stylii work just like any normal, commonplace, easily purchased capacitive stylus.
There is no Bluetooth connection.
The battery just sends a small electrical impulse to the fine tip of the pen, similar to how your finger works on a touch screen.
Have you made sure the stylus is charged up?
Is the stylus turned ON?
Have you tried a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
That stylus should just always work regardless of any iOS upgrades/updates.
Should make NO difference.
