No icon for GarageBand

In an effort to update GarageBand from 6.0.5 to 10.3.2 I was not able to do so. I then found a suggestion that I place the old version of GB in the trash which should enable me to go to the App Store, search for GB and click on the “Get” button. This I successively did; however, somehow I managed to forget that the icon was in the trash and I deleted it. Now the only way that I can open GB is to:

  1. Go to the App Store
  2. Search for GarageBand which now shows only an “Open” button
  3. Click on “Open”
  4. I then must choose “Empty Project” or another template
  5. At this point I can click on “About GarageBand” and verify that I have version 10.3.2.

I will not go into all the procedures that I have tried, which have included installing the old version 6.0.5., using AppCleaner to remove all the pieces of 6.0.5, deleting preferences, etc.

Is it not possible to COMPLETELY REMOVE ALL of GarageBand and Garritan and make a clean install?

I need to solve this problem before investing a lot of hours working with GarageBand only to find that the application is broken and fails in some way.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

this is a very difficult post to parse, it's a bit all over the place, but it sounds like the main issue is that the GB icon isn't appearing in the dock.

you'll find the app located in your Applications folder, at the root level of your drive; you can drag it directly to the dock and it will remain where you place it.

if for some reason you can't find it, use your workaround to get GB launched; the GB 10.3.2 icon should appear in the dock.

control-click the icon and choose "Keep In Dock" from the Options menuItem:

4. I then must choose “Empty Project” or another template

just so you know, GB will always automatically reopen the last project you saved, or will ask you to select a template if there isn't something to reopen

HangTime,

Thank you for your very prompt response. Sorry for the lack of clarity. I should have stated that there was no icon in the applications folder when listed alphabetically by name. However, once I followed your instruction, the GB icon remained in the dock and I then clicked on the GB icon, went to Options, then to Show in Finder and found what I was looking for. Long ago I had placed several music applications in a folder name Music Applications, then placed that folder in the Applications folder at the root level of my drive. (bad idea)

Again, thanks for your help. You solved my problem!
