connecting iphone and bluetooth

How do you pair a bluetooth to an iphone....I have gone into settings, turned on bluetooth, and the gear just spins, does not show any devices. I have restarted iphone several times and powered off and on bluetooth as well as made sure it was charged and near the iphone. This bluetooth worked with my iphone s5 and can't get it to connect to the iphone se. Any suggestions?
