i found out that my front camera had a red light and that it won’t let me type when it dosent see a body part and i tried to see what would happen if i cover it , then it didn’t let me use the screen. It was like it froze until I uncovered it .
is this normal ?

That is the proximity sensor that disables the screen when you are on a call so your ear or jaw doesn't inadvertently press any keys. Sounds like your is malfunctioning. You can try a forced restart, forced restart, or restore your iPhone from you backup.
