Apple watch does get damaged by MRI

I was working in a 3T MRI today and I forgot to take my watch off. I was moving things around right at the opening of the bore when I felt my watch pulling on my wrist. I just walked away, took it off and didn't think anything of it because the watch seemed to be working just fine. But now that I am home the watch wont charges anymore. The charger does not locks into the watch anymore, it seems that the magnetic element inside got shifted around or the magnetism got inverted because now it seems to repel the charger rather than attract it.

It sounds like the applied alternating MRI field inverted the field of the magnet which attaches the charging cable. That’s a 50% chance, if you go near the magnet again it might reverse the field again or it might leave it as it is now. It might be worth taking the watch to work again tomorrow for one attempt to fix it, otherwise it will be a new entry on your Don’t Do That list, and a replacement watch. Unfortunately this will not be covered by warranty but if you have AppleCare+ you might be able to claim it as one of your two accidental damage incidents.
