Hi there wjc 1973. Maybe i can help you. I’m not going to ask how it was wiped clean or if you did a backup 1st( usually a good idea). The last startup/install dvd’s were Snow Leopard which was a long time ago. apple doesn’t do that anymore. I don’t even think notebooks come with a built in dvd drive anymore. You’d have to boot from the Recovery Partition( apple/command key + R held down on startup) or try Internet Recovery( option, command/apple+ R held down on startup with Ethernet cable plugged into your Mac). If you’re not sure if you have a Recovery Partition, holding down Option
on reboot will show you all bootable drives. If you don’t have any startup/install dvd’s at all, as in, zero, you’d have to go to your local Apple store and buy a copy of Snow Leopard for around $ 20, or have them order a copy for you. That’s all i got

If yours is a mid 2010 model, then it came with 10.6.3 originally. Apple sells the snow leopard in their online store and the version is 10.6.3, so that should work. If you upgraded the firmware on it for internet recovery, then it may not. but then you should be able to use that to install an OS. You would press Command + Option + R and would see a rotating globe until you reach Apple servers online. If that does not work, you will need the disk.
