Finder item opens instead of being selected

Recent issue with some items in a Finder window. When I click on them (to drag them into another folder) they insist on opening a full page view in Finder of the item (not the creating app).

High Sierra.

I've been a Mac person for almost 30 years and this behavior has me stumped.

Ideas? Fix?

Actually, I must have clicked on FORCE CLICK in the trackpad preferences. Oops. Sorry everybody. My bad.
