Issues when connecting lightning headphones to iphone 8 and ipad

For a few days now, my iphone and ipad start acting up, when lightning headphones are plugged in. The music starts playing, without having the itunes or spotify apps up. Also when I make a phone call using the headphones the call gets disconnected right away or music starts playing while on the call and disconnects it within seconds. When watching videos on ipad, music just starts playing or the video stops and then jumps to another video. I thought this had to do with the headphones and got brand new ones, but the same problem is still happening. This wasn't happening prior to the iOS 12.1.4 update.
